SCRABBLE
PLAY
SCRABBLE! YESTERDAY FOR ME AND MY CHILDREN WAS A VERY GOOD
EDUCATIONAL DAY.
WE
PLAYED SCRABBLE.
MY
OLDEST SON IS 6 SO HE IS AT THE AGE WHERE HE KNOWS A FEW WORDS AND
HOW TO PUT SOUNDS TOGETHER. MY 4 YEAR OLD KNOWS THE ALPHABET
SO
YESTERDAY WE PLAYED SCRABBLE FOR THE FIRST TIME AND EVEN FOR POINTS.
WE
COULD ONLY PLAY WHILST MY 16MONTH OLD SLEPT SO WE MUST OF PLAYED FOR
A GOOD HOUR OR TWO.
DURING
THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT WORDS, LETTERS AND NUMBERS MY
CHILDREN KNEW.
CALLAN
(AGED 6), I FOUND WAS VERY INDEPENDENT AND COMPETITIVE, ABLE TO SPELL
SOME WORDS WITH FIVE LETTER IN ON HIS OWN.
BRYNDLY
(AGED 4) LOVED COUNTING THE NUMBERS AND SHOUTING OUT THE LETTERS,
KNOWING WORDS NO BIGGER THAN 2 LETTERS LONG. THIS WAS DUE TO
CURRENTLY LEARN SOME KEY WORDS FROM SCHOOL. (FRECRENCY WORDS)
CALLAN
I FOUND WAS IS ALSO VERY GOOD AT LONG DIVISION AND CAN DO LONG
DIVISION FOR AGED 7-11 YEAR OLD. (HE COMPLETED A WORK BOOK FOR THIS
AGE GROUP NEEDING VERY LITTLE SUPPORT.)
MYSLEF
I AM THE POLAR OPPOSITE OF THIS AND I AM HAVING MY 6 YEAR OLD WIPING
THE FLOOR WITH ME.
WE
ALSO USED THE DICTIONARY. I JUST WANTED TO GRAB MY PHONE AND SHOUT
INTO IT, SO THAT IT WOULD TELL ME THE CORRECT SPELLING AND THE
DIFFINITION OF A WORD.
BUT
I SAID TO MYSLEF “NO!”, “STOP!”.
I
NEVER LEARNED HOW TO USE A DICTIONARY UNTIL I WAS IN MY 20’S, I
FAILED MY GCSE ENGLISH DUE TO DYSLEXIA.
BUT
THE OTHER REASON I FAILED WAS DUE TO NOT KNOWING HOW TO USE A
DICTIONARY, KNOWING THE MEANINGS OF WORDS AND NOT KNOWING WHAT A KEY
WORD WAS.
SO
YESTERDAY I STARTED SHOWING CALLAN HOW A DICTIONARY WORKED AND GOT
HIM TO WRITE DOWN THE WORDS AND THEIR DICTIONARY DEFINITION.
SO
YESTERDAY CALLAN WAS TAUGHT WHAT IS A NOUN? I WILL DO A MINI TEST
WITH HOME ON FRIDAY TO SEE WHAT HE LEARNT THIS WEEK AND REMEMBERED.
